Carmen was born in Romania, lived in France, and settled in the United States in 1985. She was a French high school teacher at Xavier Prep from 1986-1996 and at St. Martin’s Episcopal from 1996-2015. She has taught French at L’Union Française since 1987. While at St. Martin’s, she was head of the modern and classical languages department.

She holds a Master of Arts in Romance Languages-French and took the DELF (Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française) and DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française),  official qualifications awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify the competency of candidates from outside France in the French language.

Carmen loves teaching French language and the different cultural and historical periods of France. She is a perpetual learner, sharing enthusiastically her wealth of experience and knowledge with her students.

Carmen travels frequently and enjoys reading, classical music, and outdoor activities. She has started teaching French and Romanian to her two-year-old granddaughter!
