A1 Beginner French

Time: Wednesday 6:00 p.m. – In Person

I have always enjoyed teaching beginners, and have done it for more than 20 years at Union Francaise; it is a pleasure to see them progressing. The book used is Learn French the Fast and Fun Way. I have used it for quite a while with excellent results, and the beginners love it. Of course, emphasis will be put on comprehensive learning by reading, speaking and practicing lots of exercises.

Book: Learn French the Fast and Fun Way by Elizabeth Bourquin Leete, 3rd edition.

Teacher: Roger

Time: Thursday 2 p.m. – In Person

This is a beginners class that will give to students the fundamentals of French vocabulary and grammar. Written activities are included as well as conversation. Complete beginners are welcome as well as students who already have some basis in the language and would like to review all the basics. The class will use the vis-à-vis French for beginners, fourth edition.

Fundamental verbs necessary for communication (to be, to have, to do, to study . . .) will be emphasized. Online exercises focused on conversation will be used. After a few first lessons, dictation will be done to improve listening and writing skills. Short homework exercises are assigned every week. YouTube videos support the learning process.

Time: Thursday 6:00 p.m. – Zoom

This class is for advanced beginners. It will involve a lot of grammar lessons, punctuated with French poems and song lyrics. We will also have a conversation every day. This is a great refresher for those who are not really absolute beginners but may have forgotten a good bit of French they once knew. It is also useful to students who have recently mastered some beginning French (are ready to conjugate regular verbs and some irregular verbs in the present), have some vocabulary, and are ready to grow beyond those basic skills.
