A1 Beginner French

Time: Tuesday 6:00 pm and Thursday 6:00 pm (class meets twice per week)

This class includes videos giving pronunciation and grammar instruction each week (with optional homework assignments for students to practice) as well as two separate Zoom meetings of an hour in length with conversation, reading, and a review of the grammar presented in the videos. Warning: This class contains humor. Come laugh while you learn.

Time: Saturday 9:30 am

The class will focus on beginning conversational skills and building basic vocabulary needed for everyday life. Basic verbs will be conjugated in the present tense and structuring simple questions will be incorporated. Short nursery rhymes and songs will be included.

Book: Vis-à-vis beginning French, Fourth Edition by  Evelyne Amon, Judith Muyskens and Alice C. Omaggio Hadley. (Can be purchased on Amazon for under $15.)

A2 Upper Beginner French

Time: Tuesday 5:00 pm

This class is offered for students who already have a French background. It strengthens your vocabulary, grammar and conversational skills through group exercises and conversation.

This class is offered for students who already have a French background. It strengthens your vocabulary, grammar and conversational skills through group exercises and conversation.

This class will include conversation, grammar from the textbook, articles from Readings in Slow French and videos.

Time: Saturday 10:00 am

This class will include a video giving grammar review or a video about French culture each week (with optional homework assignments for students to practice writing in French) as well as a Zoom meeting of an hour in length with conversation, reading, and a review of the grammar presented in the videos. Book: La Civilisation Française for the first half of the class, and during the second half of the class we will slowly and carefully read a detective novel together — La Tête d’Homme by Georges Simenon.

B1 Intermediate French

Time: Monday 5:30 pm

Each class will start with a dictation focusing on a selected topic. It will introduce tenses such as the future antérieur and the subjonctif présent. Expressions de la cause exercises will be used. Time permitting, classes will incorporate short documentaries, poems and songs.

Time: Tuesday 2:30 pm

This class offers the opportunity to improve your French conversation using extracts of literary texts from classic and contemporary French writers. The class offers an opportunity to strengthen your ability to converse in a group and to express your opinion.

Time: Wednesday 6:00 pm

Students will start to speak freely. We will do grammar from the textbook and use articles from Readings in Slow French and videos

Time: Thursday 1:00 pm

This is a conversation class in which grammar is reinforced in context (reading, speaking, etc.).

It offers the opportunity to improve your French using texts, audios and songs centered on French culture and daily life. You will increase your vocabulary, improve your comprehension and advance your ability to speak about various topics.

B2 Upper Intermediate French

Time: Saturday: 9:30 am

This class is for students who want to perfect their knowledge and reach the Advanced level. Emphasis is placed on grammar exercises, dictations, vocabulary and conversation.

C1 Advanced French

Time: Monday 5:30 pm and Thursday 5:30 pm (class meets twice a week)

This class is designed for students who speak, read and understand French well. Emphasis is put on conversation, and commentaries on articles, stories, news and events selected by the teacher. Part of class is also devoted to dictation and grammar.

Time: Wednesday 2:00 pm

This course emphasizes conversation. We will review grammar and use articles from News in Slow French.

Time: Monday 2:00 pm

This class will always begin with dictation and grammar exercises. Every week a video will be assigned to be watched at home and will be discussed. Poetry and music might be included, time permitting.

C2 Near Native French

Time: Wednesday 4:00 pm

This class is offered for students who have a high level of proficiency in French. Through readings of articles, literary and cultural texts, and viewing videos, we analyze and discuss various topics related to French culture.

Time: Thursday 3:00 pm

This class is for conversation only. I will ask students what they did during the week, and stimulate conversation using intermediate and advanced articles from Readings in Slow French and videos.
